Best Linux Games Podcast: Episodes

Tuesday, June 19, 2018 - 1:22pm

We got a whole unholy mess o' games for you this week, faithful podcast listeners ("Everspace," "Oxygen Not Included," "Vulture Strike," "Soda Girls," many others), but the biggest news this week is that "Dead Cells" has finally released a (so far, non-working for me) Beta Linux branch. BUT EVEN BETTER(!!!): "Darkest Dungeon" (DEATH WAITS) has released a massive new DLC for super cheap: "The Color Of Madness" DLC is now available for $4.99, and you WANT to hear about all of the crazy new shit they threw into it.

This week, we come blasting at you from the gaping maw of our adorative-time vacuum known as our new Prusa Original Mk3 Printer to bring you our review of "Hyper Sentinel," ("Star Force" meets "Astrosmash," meets "Zaxxon"... kind of). We also spare some time to cover 3 other titles: "Ovivo," "Wizard of Legend," and "Space God" (with mixed results, even in the early returns from initial, several-hours worth of playtesting).

We also welcome "Factorio" master, CaptainFord to Twitch. Watch this Dark Jedi lunatic build and design things that will make you shudder at:

This week, in honor of our 187th episode of the podcast, we do exactly what it says on the tin: we rant about why we hate "Albion Online" Major topic include (but are not limited to): surreptitious fee structure, microtransactions, unfun gameplay, etc., etc.

All that, and we still find time to talk about the awesome pc building tool over at (a go-to resource for plotting the hardware aquisitions necessary to have 32 monitors on your next rig).
THE COLUMN(!): ...has returned this week, to babble at you about the wondrous rogue-like adventure to be had in "Rise of the Tomb Raider's" Endurance Mode. Check it out on the website!

This week: we take a different approach to game criticism, specifically focusing on the needs of those of us who enjoy recreational weed (limited, of course, to localities where such prohibitions have been lifted, such as our native Las Vegas) in regards to their Linux gaming. Therefore, we pit two insanely ultra-mindless, hyper-violent, graphical gore-fiestas against each other to see which one we like the best. "Ruiner" (2/3rds-camera, demi-isometric, 3rd person carnage ala "Crusader: No Remorse") Versus "Apocrpyh" (first person, magical-realism, demon-infested, gibbage-festival ala "Hexen," and "Painkiller"). Our metric being simply this: which is the most mindlessly fun when nearly totally incapacitated from teh effects of them "jazz Cigarettes" those damned beatnick hipster kids have been smoking these days (AKA: weed).
